Call me Elliott.

“All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience.” – Henry Miller

For the purposes of this blog, my name is Elliott.  The inspiration behind this choice is the character (Elliott) on Scrubs.  I find several similarities between her and myself:  mainly competitiveness, a drive to work hard, and the ever-present battle with neurosis.

The opening quote is the motivation behind my decision to start a blog.  I recently came across it and immediately latched onto it because it just rings so true.  I am 22 years old and yet another U.S. citizen looking for a job in these unfortunate economic circumstances.  I graduated in May 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Statistics and decided that – given the job market at the time (little did I know) – it would be a good idea to go to graduate school and delay entering the “real world”.  I got accepted into a one-year program and will graduate this May (2009) with a Master’s of Marketing Research (MMR).  So many jobs don’t consider me because I don’t have any “industry experience”.  Well I have to get initial experience from somewhere!  I know that there are several others out there in the same boat and hopefully my shared stories and ventures can somehow help us all:  them – by learning from my mistakes and/or successes, and me – by therapeutically getting some of this frustration out of my system.

Anyways, that’s the story behind my title selection and decision to start a blog.  However, this blog is not just going to be about a job quest, it is going to be about my life in general – which may or may not be related!
